My Story
I believe the world is aching for more love and more justice.
I wake up every day believing that transformation is possible-
in individuals, in communities, and yes, even in the Church.
I believe that before we ever try to love God, God already loves us.
And that kind of love-unearned, unshakable, and always expanding—can change everything.
So I spend my life helping people tear down the walls they’ve placed around God, themselves, and others. I do it by listening deeply, leading courageously, dreaming wildly, and walking honestly with people through pain, paradox, and possibility. I create space for people to reimagine who they are, who their neighbor is, and who God might be.And I help build communities-real, messy, authentic communities- that don’t just talk about love and justice but practice it.
That’s why I serve as the Lead Pastor of Saint Matthew Church in Walnut Creek, California—
a progressive Christian community rooted in the ELCA tradition. It’s why I’ve spent over 20 years reimagining faith communities from Boston to Los Angeles, Minneapolis to the East Bay-helping them rediscover their purpose, expand their vision of God, and fall back in love with being the Church.
I’m a third-generation pastor who’s known the beauty and the brokenness of the Church—
and I still believe it’s God’s chosen way to heal the world.
I’ve studied theology from Baptist pews to Catholic seminaries to progressive pulpits.
I’m a husband to Heather, a dad to Jackson and Hazel, a lover of stories, soul work, strategy, and strong espresso.
I’m an Enneagram 8 who’s done a lot of therapy.
A futurist and an activator.
A builder of bridges and a believer in grace.
And through it all, I’m still falling in love with Jesus.
Still trusting that the kin-dom is coming.
Still showing up to help it break through—one conversation, one community, one act of love at a time.
